
US Virgin Islands, Department of Human Services Network Infrastructure
PSI and its subcontractor TSG completed a project to rebuild DHS' Network infrastructure.
This ambitious undertaking included the following pieces:
Network
- Enterprise class switches replaced the star configuration at the key locations to ensure flexible and scalable growth to the department
- Fibre optics pulled to department offices and edge switches for high speed communications to the core
- Replaced network cable with current cable and management in all of the 18 locations
- Wireless LAN implemented with a radius server and 128 bit WEP for security
- Wireless WAN between buildings in some locations
Security
- Scrubbing of each PC in the agency to remove viruses and spyware.
- Symantec Enterprise Protection Suite used to protect e-mail servers, servers, and desktops
- Implementation of Microsoft Active Directory, with users and policies defined to ensure data and network security
- SonicWall firewalls added to each site. VPN connections established to each of the 18 offices
Enterprise Backup
- Configured servers to perform backups with current on-site media
- Developed a plan to phase in IBM TSM as the centralized enterprise backup solution
Server Infrastructure
- Implementation of Domain Controllers and application servers
- Implementation of Enterprise e-mail system using Lotus Notes. This included:
- Core servers on both islands
- DMZ Servers for authentication of off-site clients
- Symantec Mail Gateway servers in each DMZ
- Replication of servers between the islands
- Building of redundant paths for mail to flow into either island based on availability
- MX Logic spam and virus filter
- Web site design, configuration, and implementation
Video Conferencing Center design
- Implemented the network infrastructure for the VCC
- Inspected possible VCC sites
- Instructed the customer on the best use of colors and furnishings to present the best image possible for the build-out
Monitoring
- Implementation of Cisco Works
Training
- Develop and provide class room training to all e-mail users
- Provide hands on mentoring and documentation for MIS staff on administration and maintenance of the new infrastructure
